Front door of the Bananeira Restaurant
Once in Sao Paulo, you must appreciate the Brazilian food in the most characteristic place as possible. Despite being a bit far from the city center (neighbourhood of Morumbi), the restaurant Bananeira can offer a good local experience to you.

Located in a wooden shed, the roof is made with "piaçava" (sort of palm fiber) and plants all over the place. On the menu, you find stew of shrimp with pepper sauce and farofa palm. This mood is very Brazilian, but the price is a bit "salty".

Petri Glad is an insidesaopaulo reader who moved to São Paulo last November. I had the chance to meet him on the first event organized by the blog, entitled "Insidesao Paulo Experience", where several readers could meet each other and have some beers. Petri was very excited about his recent experience of living in Sao Paulo, so I invited him to write few advices for you guys. Check it out!

Overview
The authors of the best comments will be selected for an interview, after which will be the final selections will be made. The interviewers will consider the candidates' appetites for food and knowledge, and how their passion for food is expressed. Remember to stick to critiques of the food and your dish, and not of the restaurant in general.

Paladar 2011: Maní restaurant winner
of Fish and Seafood contest
Insidesaopaulo has talked to the organizers, and the text can be written in english if you wish, but it's important to be living in São Paulo and to be available to visit restaurants in town. The winners of the contest will be announced in December.

Since the Prêmio Paladar doesn't consider any votes based on memory alone, the selected judges will have to taste and experience all the items competing for the 2011 award in different categories.

They must visit the restaurant as ordinary customers, without identifying themselves. They must order, pay the bill, and write a review. That's undoubtedly an intense and secret task - but definitely an awesome one.

Rules
  • Each contestant may send only a single review including a valid e-mail (which will not be revealed). The contest is already running and ends on September 18th, at 11:59 pm.
  • The applicant must live in São Paulo and be available during the contest. The participation is voluntary (it's not paid). No refund is available for extra expenses.
  • Cuisine chefs and restaurant staff are not allowed to participate.
  • The identity of the judges in 2011 will not be revealed to the readers until the award celebration.
You can be part of it!

Nutrisom is a great option for natural food in downtown Sao Paulo (Centro). Great value for your money!

Opened in 1980, the restaurant Nutrisom is the ideal choice for a healthy lunch in downtown Sao Paulo. It's a great bang for your buck! The restaurant is clean, relaxed, and follows a lacto-egg-vegetarian menu (eggs, dairy products, fruits and vegetables) with a wide variety of salads. All food is fresh and well prepared.

You can find hot pies, risotto, soufflés, snacks, soups and many other options every day. The flavor of the fresh food is very strong, and it's a refreshing clash with the metal and highrise buildings of downtown. The restaurant offers two options of natural juices and dessert each day, and the desserts sometimes include homemade ice cream.

Frequented by local workers and businessmen, you will find plenty of people well dressed and in suits. Avoid going between noon and 1 pm. It is difficult to find a table.

The cuisine chef of the ex-President Lula is responsible for the menu in a restaurant in Vila Madalena

The restaurant Las Favas Contadas is a good advice to have a dinner if you are visiting Vila Madalena. It offers Brazilian and contemporary cuisine in a peaceful and organized house in that neighborhood. The restaurant has a few tables, and souvenirs from various parts of Brazil. The proposal is to offer the pleasure of quality and good food with a strong cultural influence and fair price.

The varied menu counts on appetizers, salads, meats and seafood, bring spices and flavors of regional cuisine such as confit de pato ao molho de tucupi and tapioca com arroz de jambu. Also ripa de costela de javali confitado com salada morna de favas. There is tempura de badejo ao molho curry com arroz de coco e laranja. The desserts are fantastic. The restaurant's cuisine brings influences from all over Brazil and other countries such as France, Thailand and much more.

    The Chef
The cuisine chef of this restaurant is Caio Henri. He came from the northeastern region of Brazil, from very simple origin. But Caio has lots of experiences in his career. Among all his adventures, the most interesting is that he used to cook to the former ex-president of Brazil, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva at the Palácio do Planalto in Brasília. Lula loved his food, it has the face of Brazil. A curious fact, mentioned by Henri, was when the president was receiving the Olympic Games commission. On the menu, the main dish was the Mediterranean cuisine. When the food was served, Lula asked to call the chef and asked if they wouldn't have feijão (beans, a typical dish of the popular Brazilian cuisine). Lula is passionate about the most popular Brazilian dish.

Organize yourself to come and visit the restaurant where you can find the Chef who cooked for the former ex-President Lula.

La Tapa! Spanish bar inside Sao Paulo

    [renata rolim]
This Spanish bar is the perfect place for a cold beer and to taste some tapas. This is La Tapa! It is managed by  two partners who met when they were studying at the University Anhembi Morumbi. The decoration of this building reminds Spain too: on the walls, there are fans of flamenco, bullfighting posters, pictures of tourist sites in Span and, of course, the flag of the country. The typical tapas are the focus of the menu.

You should go there and try the gambas al ajillo (garlic prawns); the patatas bravas (potatoes with a spicy sauce); the pantomaca, which is bread with tomatoes and usually a slice of cheese or jamon on top, finally you won't miss the tortilla, the typical Spanish omelette with potatoes. Delicious! To drink the offer includes the typical alcoholic sangria and beers, among the 25 labels you can try the Spanish Estrella Damm Inedit. It 's 15 minutes walking from the subway station Tatuapé, easy to reach.
