Festival Mix Brasil

After the International Film Festival and the Indie Festival, the circuit is preparing to receive the Mix Brasil Festival. In its 16th edition, the event brings together 240 movies, most of GLS content in six cinemas. It start on Thursday (13) at the Olido Cinema. CineSesc and Area Unibanco start the next day; MIS and the Center of Jewish Culture next week. The Mix Brasil will be in Sao Paulo (12 to 23/11), and in Belo Horizonte (from 09 to 14/12). This year, the festival hit its record in the selection of Brazilian films. In all, there are 51 productions of the entire national territory. The films present a list of directors well known by the general public as Caco Ciocler, Vera Zimmerman, Paola Oliveira, Ney Matogrosso, among others. This record in the national selection was due to the increase not only of the quantity of products geared to the theme but also by the substantial jump in technical quality and content of these works. A market that grows every year, thanks to the growing number of film festivals that has the sexual diversity as a theme, such those of Berlin, Sundance, Toronto.

This money is coming from the State Bank Nossa Caixa and is now available and the institutions may grant credit to people interested in buying vehicles across the country. The agreement aims to put money in the market and facilitate the purchase of vehicles to ensure the continued production and the equivalent level of employment. The president of Anfavea (National Association of Automobiles Manufacturers), Jackson Schneider, celebrated the decision. Introducing: Mercado Municipal

This construction of 1933 is one of the most representatives projects of Ramos de Azevedo. Full of colored glass from the Russian artist Conrad Sorgenicht Filho, the location is ideal to find exotic fruits and spices typical from other countries, moreover, is an excellent option to admire the architecture in neoclassical style, which has gone through reforms. With the Revitalization Program of the Center of São Paulo, the Mercado Municipal (Central Market) -- or simply "Mercadão" as everyone says --, had been rebuilt in 2003. In addition to restoring the facade, stained glass and painting, the building also received new facilities such as underground, the old Hall of Auctions (now Hall of Events) and mezzanine, which offers eight restaurants.
This is the most traditional gourmets point of São Paulo, the Mercadão surprises with a big variety of domestic and imported foods. With an area of more than 20 thousand square meters of built area, it offers 281 boxes with more than a thousand employees working to serve around 20 thousand customers every day. The total market usually trades more than 350 tons of food daily. In addition it's possible to taste the traditional pastel of cod or a classical Sanduíche de Mortadela (Bologna's Sandwich), and the visitors can also eat traditional Brazilian dishes such as rice and beans, or even enjoy the Japanese cuisine.

Medium term and mute, from Wilfredo Prieto

Winner of the Cartier Award 2008 of Frieze Art Fair, the Cuban Wilfredo Prieto specialized in synthesizing the most complex questions with just a touch of light. Mute in the installation, the artist is about the contrasts and contradictions of a space through the use of lighting typical of nightclubs in a completely dark room, but without any sound. Already the new "medium term" manifests itself as an experience that only the viewer to go through the three areas may experience, feeling the extremes of temperature. Only going to get understand, or better, to feel. [Fernando Aguiar by B-Coolt]

Restaurant: Consulado da Cachaça

Cachaça's Consulate is the name! So with this typical Brazilian name, it's easy to imagine how the restaurant introduces the country where you are. There you can find more than 400 different labels of the country's official drink, from all regions of Brazil. Even the legendary disputed Anísio Santiago, that is aged for 50 years and valued at R$ 15 thousand — for those brave ones, a dose of it costs R$ 300. Going with the drinks, the house offers a Tobacconist, with Cuban cigars, from Bahia and even their own manufacturing. During lunch time, the meals are prepared on the self-service or a la carte system. For dinner, there is a range of options inside a wide menu. The person who commands the kitchen is the chef Dina Rocha, who prepares her recipes with typical Brazilian ingredients. In addition to the exotic recipes - many of them uses cachaça - the customer can have a look on some pieces of art displayed by artists who use the restaurant to show their arts. In the restaurant you'll also find concerts of Brazilian music.

Fuerza Bruta

I've been to a very good presentation in São Paulo. It's called FuerzaBruta, an Argentine group that presents a physical show without words and really visually powerful. There are eleven actors/dancers challenging the gravity and they show up hanging or dancing in a pool of transparent plastic just above the public's head. It's easy to get wet or dirty after all this activities because you get too close to them, sort of being part of it. If you have time, check out this video I got, just to show what I mean. The sound track is amazing. There is DJ playing a constant electronic beat performed alive and it promises awaken all sorts of emotion. It's amazing and I recommend!

This is not a void exhibition

Known as challenging as Spaces "white cube" of the galleries, the curator Jens Hoffmann brings to Brazil the international exhibition "This is not a void". To chalenge our concept of space, Jens brings together the work of 37 artists to create a space that, though apparently empty, is full of works of art that, because they are dematerialized, intangible or ephemeral, passing unnoticed. Whether in black paintings of the Russian Kazimir Malevitch or in ready-made works of Marcel Duchamp, the intention is to check our perception of art, and oblige us to live it in a more focused. Moscow City Ballet

What can I say about the Moscow City Ballet? I think that just the name by itself is enough to let your mind to be invaded by adjectives starting from "excellent". Sordid statement would be redundant to say that is one of the best companies in the world of classical dance. What can we expect from its founder, choreographer and ex-first former dancer of the Bolshoi Victor Smirnov-Golovanov? What to expect from a classical ballet company of the highest level representing nutcracker, Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, and Cinderella? Everything and a little more. [Laura Zigaurre by B-Coolt]

Sunday at the Liberdade!

Liberdade (Freedom) is a district of the central region of Sao Paulo. It is the largest stronghold of the Japanese community in the city, which also represents the largest Japanese community in the world, outside of Japan. The cultural influence can be felt on the streets thanks to the typically Oriental fixtures (where even the signs of establishments are written in Japanese) and the thematic exhibitions which take place periodically.
History: The famous neighborhood has been the scene of many battles in the history of the capital. The name Liberdade comes from the time of the abolition of slavery.
In the early years of the 20th century, the neighborhood began to change. June the 18th of 1908, at the port of Santos, a ship called Kasato Maru is bringing the first 782 Japanese immigrants to Brazil. They left the port of Kobe on April the 28th to "make America", which at the time meant planting coffee in the interior of Sao Paulo. Many of them did not accustome to that slavery routine and returned to the capital. In the following decades, more than 30 crowded ships arrived in Santos, Liberdade was sheltering several of them.
The development was inevitable and the neighborhood acquired Oriental characteristics over the years. Other Asians moved there, such as Chinese and Koreans. Today, Liberdade is one of the biggest tourist attraction neighborhoods of the capital, with its decorated and colorful streets.

Every Sunday you can have lunch at the typical japanese market, it's pretty cheap and funny!
Easy to reach, the district is served by Line 1 (Blue) of the Metro of Sao Paulo, Liberdade station. The market is just out there!
If you prefere something more confortable there are many restaurants all around, it's nice to have a walk and just choose one.
A good option is the Nandemoya, which is a "por Kilo" serving Japanese food. You can see the kitchen and the cookers always preparing fresh sushy behind a window. Big choice, cheap prices, lots of fun with the japanese karaoke!

Impulse

To idealize the collective impetus composed by sheets and books of 24 artists, the curator Marcio Renée wanted to explore the potential of plastic notes, drafts and projects that can be inside a notebook. The "artist's notebook", which might or might not be properly a notebook, gets this name because of the semantic approximation of the surface where the artists organize their visual references, and their annotations of their works projects. These objects represent only a portion of the record of the creative process and reveal details often absent from the final work. Inspire yourself. [Camila Pompeu by B-Coolt]

Trade in Sao Paulo grows 2.1% in August

The trade of Sao Paulo's metropolitan region has registered 2,1% of growth in sales last August, in comparison with the same month last year. This is the 29th consecutive increase of the index, which accumulates high of 4.8% this year compared with the same period of 2007 following the evaluation of Fecomercio-SP (Sao Paulo Trade Federation). In this assessing, the indices show that São Paulo is still worth the supply of credit and the recovery of income and employment, which stimulates consumption. The expectation, however, is that this framework undergoes changes in the medium term because of the influence of international crisis, considering the Fecomercio-SP.

The highest elevations are in the sector of clothing, fabrics and shoes, with high of 17%, registering the 25th consecutive months of discharge.

The segment of Stores Building Materials ranks second place in sales, with increases of 16.6% in August. Then the automobile sector, with a high of 14.3%. They also reported growth in August, on the same basis of comparison, the sectors of Furniture and Decoration Stores (6,3%), Pharmacy and Perfumeries (5,9%) and Appliances and Electronics Stores (2,4%).

Supermarkets already showed a decrease of 6,5%. According to Fecomercio-SP, the result had influence the increase in prices of commodities (raw materials) by seasonal factors. It also recorded negative performance of the Departments Stores (-8,7%) and the Stores Autoparts & Accessories (-28,5%).

Soccer Museum inside Sao Paulo

Soccer Museum at Pacaembu Stadium

The Soccer Museum was inaugurated in Sao Paulo. It's inside Pacaembu Stadium, that has opened its doors to the public last week. Budgeted at R$32.5 million, the museum entered into a broad audiovisual collection to tell the history of football and its importance in Brazilian society. It's place, which is under the Pacaembu bleachers, is divided into three main areas (Emotion, History and Fun).

There are 15 rooms and the museum is not just about what happens inside the field. The intention is also to show the trajectory of Brazil intertwined with its most popular sport. "It's not a place just about football. It is also a tribute to the sense that this sport awakens in people, "says the curator Leonel Kaz.
Following the Museum of the Portuguese language style, the Soccer Museum also wants to prioritize interaction with the public. In it, visitors can discover the power of their kick or play foosball with teams in different tactical schemes.

Einstein Exhibition

The Nuclear Power, the Laser and also the GPS [among many others] are consequences of the geniuses of a man who dared to bend the space, changing the perception of time and reaching the future. Who? Albert Einstein. The image showing his tongue could seem surreal, but in some way, it wasn't. "My life is a simple thing, which is not applicable to anyone," he said. The Einstein Exhibition shows his personal objects, photos, letters, manuscripts and several interactive materials (panels and touch screens, etc.). It will drag the spectator to the visionary world of this genius admired by many but understood by few. [Fernando Aguiar by B.Coolt]

Take your time at Bourbon Street Music Club

This place has the New Orleans style. The charm is on the air. The music style that immortalized names such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Chet Baker, into the blues, makes you feel inside the capital of jazz.
Since its inauguration in 1993, many famous international like Buddy Guy, Ray Charles and BB King have played here. One of the most important items of the decoration is a Guitar signed by B.B. King. This icon of the Blues was the first artist to be on the stage and it is therefore regarded as a godfather. However, the Bourbon is open to other rhythms.
On Sundays, for example, shows of salsa and merengue guarantee the fun. In addition to live music, the house has dishes of Brazilian and international cuisine. Among the cocktails, is the legendary "hurricane": a wonderful mix of rum, sorted fruits, lemon juice and sugar.
