Pictures of the desert Sao Paulo

Avenida do Estado, avenida 23 de Maio, rua Galvão Bueno, rua São Bento e Avenida Paulista. Imagine what would happen if all of these known addresses of the state capital were suddenly abandoned by the population. What would happen if suddenly, you go out and you find nobody - or almost nobody - in the streets?

The amateur photographer Decio Lira answered this question taking pictures of the streets of an empty São Paulo. Decio worked on the weekends, holidays and days of Brazilian match in the World Cup 2010. He visited some of the best known streets in town. Most of the images were photographed during the games of the Brazilian team. The result is at least curious. Normally chaotic avenues seem desert. In streets such as the Avenida Paulista and Avenida Angelica, Decio found no one, except for a few pedestrians and few cars.

The complete series of pictures with the abandoned city can be seen in the author's Flickr
