Glasses Museum inside Sao Paulo

That's the proof that it's possible to find anything you want in Sao Paulo. The permanent exhibition shows the evolution of glasses over time. This is the only museum of its kind in America and the collection has about 700 pieces. One of the most important collections of glasses in the world is in Venice, Italy, museum Sáfilo (the collection comes 7000 pieces).

The Museu dos Óculos (Museum of Glasses), Gioconda Giannini is the official name, was founded in March 1996. The owner is Miguel Giannini - optician of Lula and Fernando Henrique Cardoso. He decided to share a personal collection, at the time with a few dozen pieces. Since then, with purchases at auctions, donations and visits to antique dealers in Europe, the group has grown and now occupies three rooms in a house built in 1918.

The glasses are displayed in chronological order, most were donated by customers of Giannini. During the guided tours, coordinated by Ivan Migliaccio, you can learn a little about the history of glasses and other curiosities. There is also an expositon of Dior collection and pieces that belonged to Brazilian personalities (Mario Covas, Elis Regina, etc..).
