2009 City Sport event starts on September 19th


The third edition of the City Sport event called 'Virada Esportiva' will have 2 thousand activities, between 10 am of September 19th and 8pm of September 20th, split in one thousand different places. In opposite of 2008 this year, the event will be focused on the city center.

The Vale do Anhangabaú will be the largest arena, but Viaduto do Chá, Praça do Patriarca, and Nova Luz will also have attractions such as: karting, basketball, billiards, foosball and truco (card game). The priority of the City Council to gather most of the activities on the same region aiming to let it easy and accessible to everyone minded to be part of it. The government expects that around 3 million people attempts to this event. Units of SESC, SESI CEUs Clubs and Schools are inside the program and will also provide activities.

The complete program is on the event website: www.viradaesportivasp.com.br. Despite the website is only in Portuguese, it has some interesting features:
  • It's possible to build your own itinerary or receive a personalized program suggested by the website.
  • You can vote for the sport you want to see your favorite athlete plays against Brazilian musicians. There are three pairs of competitors and you select the Challenge. Among the options are: Maguila (famous Brazilian pugilist) against Adam (singer of the Band Stevens); Magic Paula (World Champion of basketball) against 'Japinha' (drummer of the Band CPM22) and Cafu (Brazilian football player on 3 World Cups) against XIS (Brazilian Rapper). The voting ends on September 17th.
