The Smiling Cat Restaurant

Front door of O Gato que Ri on center of Sao Paulo

One of the most traditional and famous quality restaurants on the center of Sao Paulo is O Gato que Ri (The Smiling Cat). In activity since 1951 and close to the Praça da República (very central square), this italian restaurant prepares its own pasta. It's a delicious option really well served by a friendly staff.

Most of it's clients are business people and tourists. They offer both Portuguese and English menu. My personal advice goes to the dish Tagliatelle Four-cheese basil sauce. It's wonderful.
Try to go during lunch time for safety. The central region is a bit hostile during the night time, despite they offer Pizza made on wood oven for dinner and it's the best. The restaurant also offers it's own 'pasta fresca' to take away. Lots of clients buy this ingredient to prepare at home.
