World Carfree Day 2009 in Sao Paulo


On the next September 22nd is the World Car Free Day Celebration — in favor of the environment that started in some cities in Europe and has since spread throughout the world. On that day, thousands of people leave their car in the garage and use public transport or bicycle.

The World Car Free Day was first implemented in France on September 22nd of 1997. In 2000, the European Union established it as an international journey, bringing together 760 cities. In 2001, 1683 cities joint this movement and it still growing up.

It was just on 2005 the first year that Sao Paulo joint the World Car Free Day and still working out to get more people evolved with this campaign that, among the main propose of a better environment, is trying to create debates with politicians aiming for proposals and efforts about transport, mobility and air pollution through a public event (World Car Free Day).
